Exactly 25 years ago the first Compact Disc was produced in a German factory.
The first commercial CDs pressed were The Visitors by Abba and a recording of Herbert von Karajan conducting the Alpine Symphony by Richard Strauss. (BBC News)

So there are at least three reasons for me to pay tribute to this small shiny slice:
- It has been an innovation with enduring continuance.
- The probably most famous conductor of my home country, Austria, has been “immortalized” on the first copy.
- The CD prototype was unveiled to the world only a few days before my birth (in 1979).
